About

Who am I?

Living in London, born in Lahore, the historical capital of Punjab pre-partition and the main settlement of the Mughals, to a female Major in the Pakistani Army. Moved across Lahore, Mangla and Abbottabad. All with Army bases where my mother would go to work. Went to the millitary academy, learned discipline and hard lessons. Migrated to Derby, United Kingdom, at ~9 years of age which by London’s standards is a village. We had little money and watching my parents work relentlessly to put meals on our table, I decided I need to take care of myself and then take care of them. Did multiple jobs since the age of 11; weekly paper rounds (four times per week, from the age of 11-16), restaurants as a waiter or cleaner, selling perfumes, mobile phone sales, a 5 year long stint to support myself before and during university. This connected me with reality. Having studied computing at university, I had no idea that systems, recognition of patterns and constraints are what amplify my creativity. I learned to think.

Without a plan, ended up in sales which has started my life long journey into learning to fix how businesses run. I’m learning how only important problems get fixed and that people buy because they need to remove a thorn in their backside. So I want to sell them solutions to their problems and bring significant technologies to businesses. All this whilst being told “no” a thousand times.

Married to a Doctor, for the sole purpose of free, immediate and consistent healthcare for the rest of my life!

Why the notebook

One reason and one reason only amigo or amiga: working encyclopedia. I’ve struggled to fit into a box my whole life, for better, for worse. This notebook is a an attempt to create a recorded stream of my thinking, reading, building and writing. If you happen to have somehow read this far, and may be interested in some or none of what you’ve found, I’m flattered. Though I should emphasise, I’m doing this for myself, not for you.

Interests

Trying to know a little bit about everything and going deep on a few things. Not be fooledbyrandomness, Greek Philosophy (I am noticing the western world is dominated by the Greeks’ thinking); inherent complexity in systems whether that’s software, corporations, people, politics. Lifting heavy weights (mostly compound movements). Writing about my observation and assessments across domains, physical or theoretical. Hard tech (embedded systems, transistors, CPUs, GPUs), incentives, human relationships, distributed ecosystems (software, infrastructure (all types), global economy), novelty including delicious food… I’m interested in more things than I can count.
